Might make a good first topic crosstrainer dude... Seems the Bible is fairly specific about routes to salvation (John 14:6). Assuming the church teaches the Bible, this reference provides the answer...
Good points rhp. The Bible is very specific. Want to be sure I'm actually answering the question asked and hope justajoint will clarify a little. Kinda like Tommy asking his mom where he came from. Mom dreaded this day a long time not being sure she was able to effectively describe with appropriate detail the wonder of conception and new birth. At the end of a 20 minute, sometimes breath taking explanation about it all, Tommy replied, "That's funny. Billy said he's from Kansas." Always get the question right to start with :)
Just finished having 7 dads and their sons over for an old fashioned cookout-burgers, potato salad, smores, lemonade. My youngest son came for my sake even though he's 21. It was terrific! The dads have been meeting at our joint for 4-5 weeks discussing the book Raising a Modern Day Knight. We put the study together with dads that were interested that had sons between 8-10 years old. The book talks about teaching our sons values and living an honorable life. It also teaches the value of ceremony, and explains that having a ceremony to commemorate your son's transitions toward manhood can set him up to see it coming and embrace it. Every dad is as serious as he can be about being the best dad he can be for his son. Every week has been humbling almost beyond words as they've shared thoughts, concerns and encouragement. There is a warmth and vulnerability already among these men-most of whom didn't know each other that well before. Tonight we brought the kids in, ate burgers and played baseball in the back yard. I think everyone of them had a ball. I know I'm sore---Good principle to remember--"there is nothing about running on an elliptical trainer that prepares you for running in the back yard playing baseball."
Question 62: What is the visible church? Answer: The visible church is a society made up of all such as in all ages and places of the world do profess the true religion, and of their children.
Question 63: What are the special privileges of the visible church? Answer: The visible church has the privilege of being under God's special care and government; of being protected and preserved in all ages, not withstanding the opposition of all enemies; and of enjoying the communion of saints, the ordinary means of salvation, and offers of grace by Christ to all the members of it in the ministry of the gospel, testifying, that whosoever believes in him shall be saved, and excluding none that will come unto him.
I've been engaged in encouraging college students and couples for over 30 years and haven't been bored yet. They are endlessly fascinating. I have a terrific family-my kids increasingly make me feel boring because of how well they think and the kinds of thoughts they are considering. My bride of 29 years is my chief earthly joy and together we hope to make a difference in our world through serving and caring for those around us.
